How Much Does Therapy Cost in Orlando? Insurance, Superbills, and Sliding Scale Explained

If you have ever tried to find out what therapy actually costs, you have probably noticed something frustrating: almost nobody will give you a number. Websites say “contact us for rates” and leave you to guess. We think that makes an already hard step harder, so here is a straight answer.
The Short Answer
In the Orlando metro area, individual therapy with a licensed clinician typically runs between $100 and $200 per session if you are paying out of pocket, with most private practices landing somewhere in the middle of that range. With in-network insurance, most people pay a copay between $20 and $60 per session, or the contracted rate until their deductible is met.
At Dynamic Counseling Solutions, our standard session fee is $150 for a 50-minute individual session. We also offer sliding-scale spots for clients who qualify. More on both below.
Using Insurance for Therapy
We are in-network with Aetna, Cigna, Evernorth, FL Blue (BCBS), United, UMR, Oscar, and those that fall under the Optum umbrella. If we accept your plan, your cost per session is usually just your copay or coinsurance. Before your first appointment, it is worth a quick call to the number on the back of your insurance card to ask four questions:
• Does my plan cover outpatient mental health visits (sometimes called behavioral health)?
• What is my copay or coinsurance for therapy?
• Do I have a deductible to meet first, and how much of it is left?
• Does my plan cover telehealth sessions the same as in-person?
If calling your insurance company sounds like its own source of anxiety, we get it. Reach out to us and we will help you verify your benefits before you book.
Out of Network? Superbills Can Get Money Back
If we are not in-network with your plan, you are not necessarily stuck paying full price. Many insurance plans, especially PPO plans, include out-of-network benefits that reimburse a portion of your therapy costs.
Sliding-Scale Fees: What They Are and How to Ask
A sliding scale means the session fee adjusts based on your financial situation. We reserve a number of sliding-scale spots in our practice because we believe cost should not be the reason someone waits years to get help. Our sliding scale is a simple, judgment-free conversation, not a pile of paperwork. If money is tight, just tell us when you reach out. You will not be the first or the hundredth person to ask, and we would always rather have that conversation than have you not call.
Why Some Clients Choose to Pay Privately (Even With Insurance)
It surprises some people, but a portion of our clients have insurance and still choose to pay out of pocket. There are real reasons for that:
• Privacy. Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis on your record to cover sessions. Private pay keeps your care entirely between you and your therapist.
• No diagnosis required. Plenty of people benefit from therapy without meeting criteria for a disorder. Insurance does not cover “I want to handle stress better,” but therapy absolutely can.
• Freedom and flexibility. No limits on number of sessions, no insurance company deciding what is “medically necessary,” and full choice of approach and pace.
Neither route is right or wrong. We simply want you to know all of your options so you can choose what fits your situation.
Is Therapy Worth the Cost?
Only you can answer that for your life, but here is the frame we offer: therapy is one of the few expenses that tends to pay you back. Better sleep, steadier relationships, less time lost to anxiety or low mood, clearer decisions at work. Most of our clients are not in therapy forever. They come in, do focused work on something specific, and leave with skills they keep for life. Compared to what untreated stress quietly costs in health, relationships, and missed opportunities, a season of weekly sessions is often the cheaper option.
